A Slowly Fading Friendship

Eyes plead for understanding
Hearts confused and broken
Demolition zones expanding
Troubled by words unspoken

Haunted by memories lost in debris
Not hearing what each has to say
Caring and kindness atrophy
At the ties of friendship's slow decay

Lost in a web, the source oblique
Every day a steeper slope
Unsure which road to seek
Empty of both joy and hope

A protective wall is quietly built
By fear, hurt, judgment and pain
Mistrust clouded by storms of guilt
A friendship drowned in the rain.
